Frequently asked questions

We answer some of the questions that brides often ask us and offer our tips on finding ‘the dress’.

Q : When is the best time to look for the dress?

We recommend that you start looking for your dress nine to twelve months before your wedding, as every gown is different and made to order.

Q : What should I expect from an appointment at The Dress House?

Your appointment will be exclusive to you and we’ll focus our full attention on what you’re looking for. You should expect your appointment to last two hours and if you’d like to give us any information in advance, for example on your budget and preferred shape, we can select a range of dresses for you to review on your arrival. Alternatively, you may wish to have a leisurely look through the range and we can offer you advice.

Q : How many people should I bring?

In our experience two to three people is plenty, as too many opinions can be confusing.

Q : What should I wear to the appointment?

We suggest a strapless nude or white bra. We provide a small selection of shoes for you to try on with the gowns, to give you an idea of the look you want to create. If you’d prefer to bring your own shoes, please feel free to do so.

Q : How do I order the dress?

All the gowns in our boutique are samples and, unless you choose to take away a ready-to-wear piece, we order in a new dress for each bride.

When you order your dress we’ll create a style and measurement file for you, with all your details.

Q : Not much time until the big day?

‘Rush orders’ of no less than eight weeks are available on selected styles, in standard sizes only, for an additional cost. Please call 01582 729385 for further details.

Q : Does The Dress House do alterations?

We use local approved seamstresses who can alter your dress at affordable prices.

Q : What is the price range and how do I pay?

Our prices range from £250 to £1,800.

We offer two payment options:

Option 1: You pay a 50 per cent non-refundable deposit on the full retail price when you order your gown and the balance when you it arrives into the boutique. Any discounts or promotions will be added after payment of deposit.

Option 2: You pay a 50 per cent non-refundable deposit on the full retail price when you order your gown, then 3 monthly interest-free instalments, which are arranged on an individual basis. Terms and conditions are the same as Option 1.

We accept all debit and credit cards (including American Express).

Q : What happens when the dress arrives?

We’ll contact you as soon as we receive your gown and ask you to make an appointment within two weeks, for you to try on your gown and pay the balance. If you’d like us to store your gown, we’re happy to do so free of charge for a maximum of three months.
